Chapter Twenty-Five

A Certain Point of View

Idreamed of a giant face staring at me. It was a dream because I’d gone to sleep and now was somewhere else, though I perhaps should have questioned that logic given I’d been magically transported to a fantasy world where book characters were fighting it out to stop the end of both of our worlds.

Anyway, I was looking at the stone giant face that was on its side and connected to a body that was roughly the size of the Statue of Liberty. That’s three hundred feet for you laymen.

The body was cracked into about fifteen separate pieces, but all of these were gigantic pieces of stone by themselves. We were also in some sort of valley with green foliage and flowers at the bottom while the peaks above us were covered in ice.

Oh, and there was a hundred-foot-tall war hammer sitting head down nearby with its shaft pointing to the sky. It took me a second to figure out where the hell I was and what I was looking at because it wasn’t from the books, or at least any location that had been mentioned in them. Instead, this was a location from Eldritch Ring: The Skyfather’s Body.

In very rough terms, it was the corpse of the god of those video games. It also looked suspiciously like the statue of Perun that I’d found in the Rose family chapel. In Eldritch Ring, though, it was the literal body of the Skyfather after he’d been slain by the Lord of Darkness. If that meant this was Perun and the Lord of Darkness was Veles, then Larry C.C. Weis had clearly never had an original thought in his life.

“What in the world?” I heard Jon’s voice speak beside me. Looking to my side, I saw a Eurasian man with black hair and a soul patch dressed in ripped blue jeans, a Larry Elmore Dragonlance art t-shirt, and a dirty hoody.

“Jon?” I asked.

“Yeah? What…” Jon looked up at me. “Holy shit!”

“I know!” I said. “You’re human again!”

“Okay, dude, I need you to turn around,” Jon said, moving his hands down to his pants.

I closed my eyes and shook my head. “Didn’t you get that out of your system when you were a bird?”

“It’s not the same!” Jon said. “Be glad I’m not asking for help.”

“I am going to walk away now and by walk away, I mean run,” I said, jogging toward the giant severed head of Perun. “Wow, I’m not sure that having proof positive that gods can die should make me feel more religious or less.”

“Depends on the religion,” I heard another familiar voice attract my attention. This one, at least, came from above my head.

Turning to look, I saw Larry C.C. Weis sitting on top of Perun’s head with his legs dangling over the edge. A few ravens were sitting around him with one sitting on his head. “Hello, Mr. Bartkowski! A pleasure meeting you again.”

“Hi, Mr. Weis,” I said, pausing to make sure I was still armed.
